Check your Grip to Stop the Slice

If you are struggling with either the banana ball into the right rough, or the hard-running hook that rolls into tree trouble (or worse) on the left, you need to “band-aid” your swing to save the round. (Unless you have the escape skills of Houdini or Phil Mickelson.)

Check out my idea of a “band-aid” in today’s video.

  2. It’s also important to use down the line footage also, so we can see what is happening post impact, especially on short game stuff!

  3. good advice as usual, but why don’t you use slow motion to demonstrate the different swings. this is the only general weakness of this site.
hope to see it corrected soon.

I also would like to see slo-mo of certain full swing segments. I can replay-replay-replay the swing in the videos by doing stop-start-stop-start-stop-start, but it’s a pain and slo-mo would be a HUGE benefit. Martin Chuck does slo-mo’s that are really good, but he does not teach PCGS.

      • CJ Goecks says:

        Charlie,
Thanks Charlie for the comment. I will be filming some upcoming videos and will make sure we do some slo-mo’s as well. I am not a film director, but to produce high quality slo-mo videos it is not like using a computer software. They must actually film the video in a different speed or something so they can get the quality. Needless to say we will be doing some slow mo swings in the future for you to see. Thanks again and keep in touch.

CJ, I tried to order your putting series DVD, but the page doesn’t seem to work…

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Andreja Jenko,
Thanks Andreja for your blog post and your support of PCGS. I am sorry for the inconvenience you have been caused. You may have read about my lawsuit with my ex-partner. We have things finalized now and have received most of the stuff we are supposed to get from him. Anyways, long story short I should have the website up and running by early next week to purchase the putting DVD and anything else you might want. We will have our customer support number up tomorrow (I’m told) or the next day and we will be able to start processing orders. Thank you again for your support and your patience through this trying time. Best wishes and please do not hesitate to ask any questions. I am here to help.

      CJ,

Thank you for your response to the both of my posts (the other is below). To cure the slice with a driver I will try the split hand drill as you suggest; I usually tilt, as you recommend, with 60% of my weight to the right side and that is OK. I also thank you for the explanation of 6 under 6 over drill, I’ll try to figure it out, but it’s a bit difficult to understand, nevertheless I’ve decided to buy the putting DVD (as you say the picture tells more than words). Therefore, I kindly ask you whether you can leave a post on this blog when everything will operational and working (this or next week whenever), so I can place an order of the putting DVD. Thank you again for all your assistance. Andreja

        Andreja Jenko,
Thanks Andreja for your support and getting back to me. We have a meeting this afternoon to catch us up on where everything stands. I know the insiders club is up and running and will find out about ordering DVD’s etc at that time. I know you can get us at support@perfectconnectiongolfswing.com and I’m sure we will have a telephone number today as well, but I will keep you updated. It will be this week though when everything is working so I will keep you informed. Be on the lookout as I am releasing my “lost chronicles” sometime this week and it is a brand new product that we shot before the split so no one has seen it yet. I am giving it away for free as a way of saying thank you. To be honest I remember shooting it, but I will be watching it today for the first time. I can’t remember everything that is on there. Keep me informed on the slice and let’s keep talking. I know I can help you if we talk. Best wishes and I will be releasing a statement this week also to keep everyone informed on where we stand.

These last few months have been stressful and I am happy that it is nearly behind me. Should be resolved fully by next week. Best wishes and please keep an eye out. I am scheduling a webinar for wednesday to officially start the website and start sending out info again.

  5. Axel Kerr says:

    CJ,

I just have a slight problem with my driver, I tend to hit a low push fade with the driver, and the problem I think is that I am overswinging with the driver only, cause I subconciously think I need to do so to get power, which i know is wrong, and that leads to bringing the club way too far to the inside with an open face on the downswing. Any ideas why I always try to flatten my swing plane when I know I need to go up the shoulder plane? Irons, wedges, hybrids and my 3 wood I have no problem with this at all. I just feel I need to do this with the driver, as I’m playing lately with guys that can hit it 280y+ off the tee, and I can only get 250y off the tee with the ball always in the right rough. And the course I play, you are punished for putting the ball in the right rough. No hole accounts for it, you need to be on the left side.

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Axel Kerr,
Thanks Axel for getting back to me and sending me your swing. this really helps with the solution I can give you. First, you are rolling the club away. In other words when you look at your swing from down-the-line your hands are working away from your body and this causes the club to get too flat. Imagine your putting at the beginning of your swing. I have given you the term to feel like your painting your right thigh and we need to continue working on this. This roll away causes the flatness at the top. Don’t worry if its flatter than a wedge or whatever as this will always be the case. The driver is longer and it cannot be swung as vertical as a wedge, but if you get the roll away fixed this will get the club a bit steeper at the top and will stop the right shots. In my faults and fixes video I discuss the push board or push club video. this is a great drill to get the feeling of what I need you to work on. I would love to see your swing with a driver from face on so if you can video that for me I would appreciate it. Typically if the driver is low and right then you are too far ahead of the ball. make sure you are slightly tilted to the right with the driver since the ball is teed up. Hope this helps and please keep me informed.
      Keep em Long and Straight,
      CJ

      • Axel Kerr says:

        CJ,

The faults and fixes video that you mentioned, perfect fix for what I felt I was doing. Never did I think to hinge my wrists in front as I swung the club back.

And as for the driver, i’ll send a face on swing of that as soon as I can.

And yes, I have your putting dvd, and I will work on the 6 under 6 over drill. I spent a bit of time on that earlier this week, with great results, which pinpointed exactly what I needed to work on. My roll is good, the green reading I have down pat as I know aimpoint, but the speed was always off. And i’ve noticed, I’m 50/50 on weight with my driver, I need to place my weight further back which should straighten out my ball flight.

By the way recieved my copy of the Power Connection System, looking forward to watching the dvd’s and reading the manual!

        • CJ Goecks says:

          Axel Kerr,
Thanks Buddy for getting back to me. I really appreciate the fact that you took the time to look at the videos and try the drills we discussed. I know sometimes people struggle while making changes, but I will do everything in my power to help in any way. If the customer puts in the time and communicates with me I know I can help each of you with your game. Best wishes and send me the video and we will talk soon.

          CJ

          • Axel Kerr says:

            CJ,

I shot 79 today in comp, and what was so good, was the added distance I was getting!!! The power connection system really reinforced what I needed to be doing with my golf swing. My drives were going further in a 2 club wind than what they would before that with no wind!! And I had less of a backswing then what I normally have, i’m in that 3/4 width position on the shoulder plane which is great!

What was good about the round as well, was 31 putts. Normally I get 39-40 putts, but the 6 under 6 over drill really got my distance dialed in. I had no 3 putts, normally I have 3-5 per round.

My next issue to address now, how can I work on controlling distances with my irons? I know alignment is one thing which I will get right.

          • Andreja Jenko says:

            Hi CJ,

I’ve been missing your blog posts and support and encouragement you have given us, golf players; beginners, intermediate and advanced players in the past, so I’m really glad that you are back :-) . PCGS and 360 Degree System proved for me and are great instruction materials! Maybe you remember I’m a beginner in this game and following you instructions, I really enjoy my time at the course now. But two major troubles that I still need to work on are eliminating the slice with a driver and the number of putts. I don’t have your putting series, but I checked the 360 Degrees System DVDs if there was the presentation of the 6 under 6 over drill, but I found none. Therefore, I kindly ask you to present it in a short; referring to Axel’s post it proves to be very useful. Thank you.Andreja

          • CJ Goecks says:

            Andreja Jenko,
Thanks Andreja for your support. To cure the slice with the driver make sure you get the feeling of the split hand drill. Also make sure you setup with a slight tilt to the right with your driver (right hander) and place 60% of your weight on your right side. this will encourage a sweeping motion with the driver and encourage a draw. In regards to the 6 under 6 over drill here goes…
Your birdie zone for a ten and twenty footer is a grip length behind the hole(place a tee at this point). Now, place a tee ten feet from the hole. Hit your putt towards the hole and the scoring goes as follows…-3 (double eagle) for a make, -1 for a putt that stops between the front of the cup and the tee, and +1(bogey) for a putt that is short of the cup or long of the tee. Please re-read this and understand the scoring before reading further…Now, the birdie zone goes in patterns of two (grip length behind the hole for ten and twenty footers, Inside the leather birdie zone for putts of 30′ and 40′ and birdie zone behind the hole of the putter length for putts of 50′ and 60′) The learning process is great with this drill as it teaches you to give the ball a chance to go in and also you will see yourself making putts from 30 feet and beyond which will boost your confidence.
I hope this makes sense, as it is easier to describe with pictures. Anyways, please ask if you don’t understand. It may help you to draw a picture, but if you are confused I will try to explain.
            Keep em Long and Straight,
            CJ

  6. Mike says:

    Hi CJ
I have struggled with my swing for some time, in particular off the tee. I have been looking for a fix and have tried Bobby Wilson’s Power Triangle and of course now your Signatrue Series and tried to fashion a swing out of all of this as well as reading various tips. As you can well imagine this has now confused me and I am just about misssing every tee shot (Drive or 3W) with a nasty pull or big slice and now stand over the ball with zero confidence with predictable results, and this then starts to make the rest of my game detoriate.
I need to start focusing on one thing, do you have some suggestions with your Signature Series or something focusing on Driving to try and declutter my mind and get back to hitting it solid and longer.
    Thanks
    Mike

Hey everyone I wanted to touch base with you. You haven’t heard from me for the past couple of months due to legal issues within the company. You may have received an email from my ex-partner Tim Oyler today stating the fact that we are no longer together and that he is currently starting a new business. Not wanting to risk defaming him and not wanting to risk getting sued, let’s just say that we had different views, in my opinion, on how to treat the customers and how to run a business. Let’s be honest. I was the the golf instructor and the face of Perfect Connection Golf Swing. Tim ran the behind the scenes/ business side of Perfect Connection Golf Swing. Due to areas that were out of my control we have agreed to part ways and I will continue on with PCGS and he will begin his own venture.
I am excited about the new team that I have put together to continue on the great instruction of Perfect Connection Golf Swing. Due to the separation of Tim and myself I ask all my students to please be patient with me for the next week or so while I am getting servers transferred, email lists transferred, and a whole lot more stuff that is needed to run Perfect Connection Golf Swing the way it should AND WILL BE run in the future. I am the golf instructor and not the computer guy so I cannot get everything transferred as quickly as he can, but I have a team that will be able to do this, but being honest he has had a head start. Again I want to truly thank each and everyone sincerely from the bottom of my heart for your support in the past. I promise that we have a lot of great things to come in the near future and I will do everything in my power to help each and every one of you to the best of my ability. Please understand my sincerity when I say this that I truly appreciate your business and as a golf instructor I receive no greater pleasure than seeing my students improve. It does me no good, nor you to continue struggling. I will do everything I can to help you enjoy this great game and passion we have chosen to play. Thank you again.

      Sincerely,

      CJ

      • Axel Kerr says:

        CJ,

Thanks for letting us know about what was going on. You have my full support as you have from the start. What you have done for my golf game nothing short of outstanding. Heck, I was worried you were shutting down after the massive sales etc, I picked up everything I didn’t have that you put out, so I am very relieved as would be a lot of people that the Perfect Connection Golf Swing will still be around. If you need any help at all, you know where to find me. I took a 4 month break from the game and came back and my swing was even better than before, no other swing offers that.

So what’s going on from here?

        • CJ Goecks says:

          Axel Kerr,
Hey buddy long time no talk. I am pleased to be back on the blog now that my lawsuit with my ex partner is over. Please be patient with me as we are getting things transferred over, ie new servers, etc. Video tips will be back shortly and I promise that we will be changing things up for the better. At the end of the day I am a golf instructor. I don’t handle the behind the scenes stuff and the stuff that people were unhappy with was out of my control. I want to treat each customer and student with the respect and admiration that they deserve. If you don’t improve than I am not happy, nor do I believe in shady underhanded tricks in marketing or scam artists. Perfect Connection is a new company, and it will take a week or so to get fully operational. I am here on the blog and willing to help in any way that I can. How is the weather down under my friend? Send me your swing and let’s take a look at it. Speaking of which …you’re an insiders member aren’t you? Are you receiving any emails from my Ex-Partner of his company. Please let me know asap if you are.
          Keep em Long and Straight,
          CJ

          • Axel Kerr says:

            CJ,

Every person on your mailing list is recieving e-mails about your ex-partner’s company. They were sent ‘because you subscribed to Perfect Connection Golf Swing’, so you might want to take a look at that. I’ve noticed by clicking on his links, that his products are going by the same format with the lower price and more stuff designed to get you into the insiders club etc, that would have been your ex partner’s marketing tactic, not yours I’d guess.

Speaking of uploading swings, I can’t remember my online skills coach password, the username is the same as my e-mail address that is required to post here though, any chance you could look at what it would be? Otherwise I could upload it to youtube or something like that.

The weather down under is starting to warm up, it’s mainly been below 10 degrees most days in winter with little to no rain, and it’s starting to warm up now.

          • CJ Goecks says:

            Axel Kerr and others,
To answer your question about the tag at the top of his emails, He is allowed to use that “because you subscribed to Perfect connection” tag at the top for a week. Like I said buyer beware with that. HE can also sell my products for a short while but there is no refund allowed from his site and there will be no place for my customers to ask questions and get them answered on his site, whereas I want to be able to help my customers if they struggle or have questions. Axel, you have my email address so you can send the swing there for the time being. We will be/ and are working on the online skills coach stuff and getting it going. Tim shut down the insiders club the other day so I hope to have that back up and running on Monday. Thanks for your patience. Again I really need everyone’s help here, especially the insider club members. IF you are an insiders club member and you have received an email from my ex-partner please please send me a quick blog post. Something simple is all I need. Thank you again.

            CJ,

Also just a thing to look for when transferring stuff, the insiders club videos don’t show up in the members area at this point of time. I know a lot about computers and website design etc, if there is anything I can do to help, let me know.

          • CJ Goecks says:

            Axel Kerr,

          • Axel Kerr says:

I’ve sent my swing to you just then CJ.

Shot 92, 86, and 89 in the 3 rounds of my club championships, reason being I had 39, 42 and 40 putts during the 3 rounds, I feel my putting technique is good, but I can never seem to get my distance control or tempo of my putting right, and I can’t seem to hole a putt outside of 4 feet which doesn’t help either.

Also when you look at my swing, I tend to hit a push fade at times with the driver, I try hard to keep the clubface square but I always hang back on my right side and hit a push/slice. I can never seem to keep the ball straight or with a draw… That’s what got me into trouble during the club championships, my driver I could never find the fairway. I’m also sending my swing with the driver.

          • CJ Goecks says:

            Axel Kerr,
Thanks Axel for the question. I analyzed your swing and included the diagnosis in a blog post above. In regards to your putting do you have my putting DVD? Remember the three factors that go into making a putt are speed, roll, and break. Speed in its simplest form is related to practice, while roll is technique, and break is your best guess (or aimpoint if you have taken a class). In the video I have given plenty of drills to work on. Please let me know if you have this video as I would recommend the 6 under 6 over drill. I will try to explain it if you don’t know what that drill is.
            Keep em Long and Straight,
            CJ

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Mike,
Thanks Mike for the question. Remember the shots your hitting…Pull and slice… are caused by the same miss…an over the top swing move with an open face. The pull is caused by a square face to the arc (over the top). Lets start simple. First check your grip. Lets make sure the face gets square and you may need to do this either by strengthening your swing or not chicken winging. The L to L drill will fix the chicken wing. The pull can be cured by doing the Right foot back drill. please let me know if this helps and lets keep talking. I know I can help you if we talk through this. Best wishes.

      Keep em Long and Straight,
      CJ
