History:
CJ Goecks And The Swing
Hi, I’m CJ Goecks…
And I’d like to tell you a little of the story behind this new swing, so you can clearly see what sets it apart from the rest and why most of my students go so quickly from struggling, frustrated, often ready to hang up their clubs to becoming confident, consistent, excited ball-strikers.
So I understand every angle of what’s happening to your body, all through the swing … as well as the body’s strengths and weaknesses, and how it’s really MEANT to move – naturally!
I’ve spent time working with David Leadbetter, coaching at his Junior Academy in Bradenton, Florida … as well as being Master Instructor for Jim McLean.
My experience even runs internationally, having served as Instructor with the Northern Golf Federation in Mexico, and as a coach for the Uruguayan Golf Federation. This of course is all in addition to my professional and top amateur clients here in the USA.
And in my efforts to always be learning more about the golf swing, and how to make it better, I’ve consulted with PGA Tour doctor Troy van Heusen, and physical therapist Damon Goddard … as well as having studied a ton of amateur and pro golf swings, analyzing them from every angle using 3D motion capture technology by Motion Golf.
Yes, I’ve spent many years consulting, developing, analyzing experimenting with numerous swing variations, looking for ranges of motion that felt more natural, and didn’t produce any of the irritation and discomfort in my clients.
And in 2009 I developed a new golf swing designed for those who suffer from intermittent to chronic golf-related pain.

Focus On:
Performance & Injury
A swing for golfers experiencing flexibility problems, inconsistencies in their performance, lack of distance, hooks and slices…
And of course the recurring injuries, aches, and pains in their hips, back, neck, shoulders, and elbows.
It was obvious to me those injuries were the result of trying to use the typical “conventional” golf swing used by the pro’s – the ones who can afford to spend half their day training in the gym, and on the range.
What these weekend amateur golfers really needed was a swing that would allow them to hit powerfully, consistently, and accurately while still being body-friendly. (Let’s face it: most of us are not always in the greatest shape, and we have very little in common with the typical touring professional.)
So I designed the Perfect Connection Golf Swing. A shortened 3/4 width swing, connecting the arms and body and aligning the shoulders, hips and knees into what I call the Triple Stack position.
Why
Perfect Connection Signature Series
The solution for serious amateur golfers tired of the inconsistency, bad shots, frustration, and pain their old swing may be causing.
The Perfect Connection Golf Swing …connects the larger muscles to the smaller ones. The goal of this natural connection of arms, shoulders, torso, hips, and legs is keeping everything working in unison throughout, and fully synchronizing your upper and lower body into one smooth motion that is body-friendly, and easy to repeat again and again.
The Perfect Connection Golf Swing is packed with power, control, consistency, and “body-friendliness” all in one easy-to-understand method! Buy It Now!!

Would you consider you swing a one or a two plane swing?
Cj noticed my clubs are hitting well behind the ball with long irons and driver how do i fix it,
Melvin Hicks,
Thanks Melvin for the question. The reason this is happening is due to the club coming from the inside too much or you have a reverse weight shift. What is your predominant ball flight? Let me know and I will give you more detailed instruction.

Hi CJ
I’m 6’6″ and weigh about 315 – and it’s all up front and in the gut. I’m also 65 years old and not in the best shape – but that’s likely to improve…with golf as one of my permanent workout goals.
I’ll get fitted as to the proper swing speed, but I’m concerned about ordering the correct extra long shaft length. What if I order a 2″ extra length club golf club set as opposed to the 1.5″ of extra length that I’ve been measured for as a way for me to be able to compensate for my huge beer-belly gut? If I lose some of that weight, can’t I just choke up a bit on the clubs, or perhaps have the clubs trimmed down?
I’ve only played golf 10 times throughout my life but have never played well because I’ve used standard length clubs, and would top the ball.
It’s also been very difficult for me to find an economical set of customized or extra length clubs. Can you suggest a few websites or retailers? I’d like to get a decent name brand, but wanted to know if it’s possible to buy a full set of used clubs for under $500?
Norman
Norman,
Thanks Norman for the question. I am a bit skeptical about your club fitting. 2″ long is crazy. I understand your tall, but I have heard from a Titleist fitter that not one guy on the PGA Tour uses clubs longer than 1/2 an inch. This was also when (drawing blank on his name), but anyway he is 6’7″. If you add 2″ to your club it will be so heavy that swinging it properly is not likely. Make sure your posture is correct and you shouldn’t need anything more than an inch long. Again I understand your predicament, but the weight of the clubs will be too heavy. If there is a fitter on here please help Norman out and give your opinion. Jim McLeery is a top 100 club fitter out of Ohio. Please contact him and I know he will help you out the best he can. Please tell him I sent you.

Im after a bit of advice,
The market is constantly bringing out new equipment that claims to add yards and shave strokes. This is said for a number of things especially new clubs and balls. Do you believe that a vastly more expensive ball is more efficient than that of a $5-10 ball? Also, what ball do you currently use, why do you use it and how much is it approximately worth?
I know technique makes up majority of the game and after looking into your videos I cant wait to test them out. Im just wondering what your opinion on equipment is?
Regrads, Jakeb
Jakeb Solley,
Thanks Jakeb for the question. the ball is the number one piece of equipment and the ball has made the most improvements over time. Is an expensive ball more efficient than that of a $5-$10 ball? Yes, especially depending on how good you want to be. Obviously if your someone that can’t break 100 yet you might want to save your money, but look into the balls like the nxt tour or the bridgestone rx, or nike’s upper tier ball. All of these are good and to get spin and control on short game shots you need a good ball. I use the Titleist ProV1x because it spins well around the green and has a slightly lower ball flight than the Pro V1. These balls will be around $45 /dz.

Hi CJ,
Thanks for the offer, which is very, very good. As I already have your Perfect Connection Golf Swing Signature Series I don’t need to get it again. If that DVD could be swapped for another one, say the Seniors one then I would consider purchasing your offer. Is that possible ?
Regards,

Hi CJ
I purchased your Sig series about 7 months ago and had almost emmediate success with irons but struggled with the driver, the top of my driver has no paint left on it, i got despondent, the more i practised the L to L THE WORSE I GOT, After watching your latest tips on the Y to L and then to the top a light went on and i realised what i was doing, i practised continually with the towel and found that i was swivelling the shoulders from the L, I now realise i need to take the arms up the shaft line, i have had a few swings in the garden and it feels way better, cant wait to get to the range, i still believe in your method, i just think i lost my way a little and over did some of the drills
Best Regards
Ken
Ken (and everyone),
Thanks for the comments. I appreciate you not giving up on me and I am glad you had immediate success. You stated that you went through some bad times with the driver. Please don’t hesitate when this happens. I am here to help you seriously. If you are struggling or have some questions let me know so I can help. I know I can help everyone if we talk about it and we figure out whats going on. I am so glad you figured it out though and I appreciate your loyalty. Best wishes and again don’t be afraid to ask for help. I seriously don’t mind and look forward to helping others.

Hi CJ
Thanks for the response. I find that if i start with nthe Y and then to the L my tendency is to turn my shuolders flat, if i concentrate on getting the hinge to the L from the takeaway getting my thumbs to point up i get into a good position, and from there thumbs to ear, do you have a problem with this, i have always thought through my hands, i am getting better contact but seem to be hitting straight right and a little thin at times, i am working on the L to L and the table top
Ken,
Thanks for getting back to me. I don’t mind you thinking through your hands and I like the positions your struggling with. Remember though that the little y is just past impact and this is what you need to get to stop the rights and the thins. Let me know if you have any questions. Ultimately it is a knockdown shot or Tiger’s stinger shot that will help get the club in front of you in the downswing.

my golf season does’nt start till May (canada) notify me then!!
It is sorted. I saw the new information.
I just wanted to thank you for this system. I have never been very good at golf because I was never consistent. I am fairly strong and athletic so I could muscle the ball around the course but more than half the time, I never knew where it would end up. I was trying to control everything about the swing using just my arms and lower body. I would chicken wing at the beginning or end of every swing or sway or (pick a swing fault)… As a result, I would end up deep in the woods over half the time.
My first time on the range after watching all of the videos was like having my eyes opened for the first time. Using your system, all of my timing issues are gone and now I am crushing the ball and it goes where I want. I have played four rounds since purchasing the videos and my rounds are getting consistently better. I have dropped over 20 strokes (from 110 to upper 80s) because I am hitting the ball predictable distances and in the fairway 90% of the time. In fact, in my last round, I had the best 9 holes of life. I shot a 41 and should have done better but I missed several birdie tries.
I also used to have significant lower back issues every time I played. Now those pains are a thing of the past. Thanks again for everything.
I plan to continue working with this for another month or so and then move up to the 360 system. Thanks again for everything.
Sincerely,
Herb Lamb
Herb Lamb,
Thanks Herb for the blog post and keeping me informed with your progress. I am so happy for you. I can’t believe you dropped 20 strokes that quick and also congrats on the low score of your life. Keep up the good work and remember to review the videos from time to time and go back to the basics. It is very important at this point to not get too far ahead of yourself as you are still learning. Keep it up and let me know if you have any questions.

I have a 15 year old son who has a beautiful swing, gets distance and has awesome swing speed, his problem is consistency will this help him without slowing his swing down or loosing him distance. He is about 275-280 off the tee righ tnow.
also alot of his shot of tee go immediately right, almost like his club is slightly open
Richard,
Thanks Richard for the question and I want to help. Are you pushing the ball to the right or is the ball starting right and then slicing. this will make a big difference in the help I give you. Please let me know and I will be glad to help you.
Keep em Long and Straight,
CJ
my drives start straight then have a slice to them which loses distance any ideas
David,
The slice you say? I have many ideas, but lets keep it simple. First check your grip and make sure it is on the club correct. As a quick reference you want the v of your left hand pointed at your right ear and the v of your right hand pointed at your right shoulder. Next work on the L to L drill and get rid of that chicken wing and you will be hitting nice draws. Let me know if you have any questions.
Keep em Long and Straight,
CJ
no when he hits it good it is straight but one in evey 3-4 shots it is immediately right and stays straight but right.
Richard,
Thanks for the question. What your describing is a push shot. We need to get the club steeper on the downswing. Make sure your taking the club back a bit outside on the backswing and this should help. Remember up the wall is the key. Let me know if this helps.

didn’t see the free video yet. Having a real problem with feeling whee my club is during my swing and syncronization. Get to the top of my swing and then I rip thru it, cant seem to mentally swing easy. Does your video help with the mental part of swinging easy with tempo
Steve Quale,
Thanks Steve for the question. My video will not give you mental tips about swinging easy. I think if you focused simply on smooooooth in the backswing or downswing and actually say it to yourself (out loud while practicing) you will be able to hear the fluctuation in your voice. Another swing tip would simply focus on balance at the end of your swing. I am not a big believer in tempo however since I believe if your swing is pretty good you won’t have to worry about timing. Hope this helps and let me know.
Keep em Long and Straight,

I get pain in my right sholder as well as my left hip and knee, from the force of my follow thru. What can you recommend to relieve this?
Many thanks, Don
Donald Bainer,
Thanks Donald for the question. You have three areas that are common for pain in the golf swing. There are too many things to list simply here on the blog. I fully recommend you get my signature series DVD and watch this DVD and see what you feel is different from your swing. You have nothing to lose with this DVD as I fully stand behind my products. Please Please for the sake of your body and the enjoyment of this game please get this DVD and work on your game.

When am I going to get my 10 DVDs? Ordered 14/15 Jan s012.
I can’t access the free videos so I can evaluate your system before deciding to purchase it. I just keep getting this advertisement on each day lesson sent to me!!
thans kenny
In fairness to an earlier complaint about the inability to get the free 10 lessons, I want to compliment the organization for the quick follow through in correcting the problem and getting me the lessons.
I am a 70 year old who has played a lot of golf and have always been a single digit player. I am a sloppy 6.7 now because of the days when I get to the course with no tempo and perhaps a little stiff.
I have always experitmented with my swing. It is part of the joy of golf. I have tried many of the concepts we they were introduced.
“Square to Square”, “Stack and Tilt”, many others.
I am left handed naturally and play left handed.
When I played well, I was a fader of the ball, with the occasion draw when the shape of the hole or pin location demanded it.
In recent years I began drawing the ball more to get back and retain distance with the driver.
When I saw your ads, I was fascinated with the promise of painless golf and a better game.
I reviewed the first lesson on the grip and unless I have lost it, you seem to be recommended the club in the palm of the lead hand rather than in the palm of the back hand (left for a right hander). Unfortunatly the short clip did not give a good close up of the grip to enable me to see how the hands fit on the club.
I am anxious to give this a try as I examine all of the lessons.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to review this before I made the investment in the whole program.
Ken Maxwell
Ken Maxwell,
Thanks Ken for the question and I am glad we were able to help you recover the 10 free lessons. The customer support team does a great job and usually its a thankless job, but they really do try to help every person out. What I said is that the grip should be in the fingers of the forward hand and more in the palm of the back hand(right hand for righties). I think due to you being a lefty we somehow got confused in the translation to the lefty side. Sorry for the confusion and hope this clears up your question.

C.J. WOULD A DIFF.STYLE GRIP HURT THE WAY YOU TEACH THE PERFECT SWING.
I OWN THE BUSTER REVERSE TAPERED GOLF GRIP HAVEN’T PLAYED IN A LONG

THANKS JACK JACQUES
OWNER BUSTERGRIPS.
Jack Jacques,
Thanks Jack for the blog post. No a reverse tapered grip would not hurt the way I teach. I have seen many pro’s build up the right hand so the grip was more matched and to be honest a skinnier left hand would help people get the grip more in the fingers of the left hand which is key. Hope this answers your question and I am going to google your company right now to check it out.
Keep em Long and Straight,

Hi CJ.
Do you advocate the use of a cross handed putting grip all the time or just for a practice drill
Ta
Gary from Australia
Gary Wright,
Thanks Gary for the question. I am indifferent on whether you use a cross-handed grip all the time. It really doesn’t matter. If you want to use it all the time then great. Cross handed seems simpler to keep the fundamentals correct for most people, but they seem to struggle on long putts with feel, but if it works for you then stick with it. When my daughter wants to learn to play golf I will teach her cross handed as this seems simple for kids to learn.

i just wanna know the perfect shot and the main point if this game.Besides,i would like to be a perfect talent individual.
Randy Joel,
Thanks Randy for the the blog post, but I am a bit confused to what you’re asking. The perfect golf shot is one that goes where you want it to go. Golf is about how good your misses are and not how good your good shots are. I think you may be expecting too much from yourself at this point. This game is such a great game because it is different every day and your mainly competing against yourself. Let me know if you have any further questions.

i am 77 and wold love to be able to hit a shot consistantly

CJ wondering if you still use the taking up the wall method with your driver as you would the irons. Thanks
David Getsy,
Thanks David for the question. Understand that the Up the wall backswing is what I want, but it’s also a feeling. The driver due to the length of the club cannot be swung as upright as a wedge for example. I want you to work on your swing with a six or seven iron and then let it blend in with the rest of the clubs. The only difference is the setup with the driver with 60% of your weight on your right side and your spine slightly tilted to the right. Again don’t over think the driver as this is bad news. Hope this makes sense and answered your question and please if you have further questions please don’t hesitate to ask and we will work through it.

Hello CJ,
I am interested in buying, but is it possible to “unlearn” a nasty habit I’ve been sruggling with a long time from my game with this series of yours. My problem is “casting” or straightening too early, not retaining the +-90 degree angle between my left arm and the clubshaft on the downswing which gets me out of the shot too early and I believe costing me distance and other problems.
Thank you and kind regards.
Paul Malherbe,
Thanks Paul for the question. Rehab is 29 days which is what “they” say it takes to break a habit while it takes 21 days to create a habit. I don’t think it takes that long to fix your golf swing because you will be hitting many balls. Just remember that to fix your golf swing it will take a lot of practice swings and lots of slow swings and some with pauses at the top. It ultimately depends on what your trying to fix. Losing the lag in the downswing is kinda hard to fix, but remember that is not where your problem is. Your golf swing will have faults and then compensations. Losing the lag is the compensation. Check your body position as if your dipping or standing up then you will have to cast. Look at the DVD’s again and start with the fundamentals and then the moveaway. The golf swing is like a series of dominoes. If you start correct they fall perfectly. If you start incorrectly then they will fall poorly. Hope this makes sense and lets keep talking and I will be glad to help you.

I have ordered your bundle package which is yet to be delivered (expected 1/4/12). The reason I ordered was watching your 10 mini-lessons. After seeing only the first few and trying to incorperate them in to my game I saw a slight improvement in my game but a great improvement in my confidence. I “believe” that I will strike the ball cleanly and at the target. To my surprise it often happens. This with a couple of short videos, a couple of buckets, and a couple of rounds. My anticipation of the bundle is temendous. At 62 I don’t expect to hit 300 yard drives, but to cleanly advance the ball “tee to green” is every hackers dream. I will keep in touch with my progress.

Im struggling in almost all catagories of the golf game and I have some minor back pain. game is around a 90 right now. Should i buy the dvd’s or can i come get some hands on instruction?
Mitch Hoefar,
Thanks Mitch for the question. I am not sure where you live, but you are welcome to either buy the videos or come see me in Dallas. Obviously hands on instruction would be best. I would love to spend a day with you working on all areas of the game so let me know what works best for you. Hi CJ,
I am confusing for chipping and pitching;
chipping is just turning the shoulder, pitching is half swing, are that right?
Bob,
Thanks Bob for the question. First the definition…a chip shot spends more time on the ground and less time in the air. Vice versa for a pitch. As far as technique there is a gray area so it might not be a turn, could be wrists. Tough question to answer, but have you seen my Short game DVD? In there I explain it a bit different and teach you how to control height and spin for pitches. I lay out exactly the black and white rules and even explain the gray area in between. Let me know if this helps or I can try to explain it different. Merry Christmas

Hi CJ.
I just wanted to leave you a quick update.
I bought the Signature Series bundle of instruction videos nine weeks ago.
Since then, I have won SIX TIMES the cost of the bundle because my game has improved so much.
My handicap has dropped, but the average Stableford score for my last three rounds is 39 – and I consider one of those to have been a bad round!
My next qualifying competition is next Wednesday, and it’s a nailed-on certainty my handicap will drop again then.
Most importantly, I now ENJOY my golf, whereas previously I ENDURED it.
Thanks again CJ – I appreciate it.
Steve Syder,
Thats awesome Steve. Keep up the great work! playing good golf is fun and I appreciate the time you took to let me know how your doing. Let me know if you have any questions. Best wishes.

CJ,
I do have one question; this time of year the sand in our bunkers is pretty wet and heavy. Is there anything I should do differently in these circumstances?
I have your bunker DVDs of course, but they don’t specifically mention wet sand.
Thanks,
Steve
Steve Syder,
Thanks Steve for the question about wet sand. this is covered in the video’s about bunkers but it is also referred to as hard sand. the key is to expect the ball to come out quicker than normal, but there are a couple of different setup changes. First grip the club tighter with the last three fingers of your left hand. this will keep the club from bouncing off the hard, wet sand. Second you want to place your weight a bit more left at setup and finally hinge your wrists a bit quicker in the backswing and this is all you need. Let me know if this helps.
Keep em Long and Straight,
CJ
CJ – I needed this tip twice on the course this morning – it worked like a dream both times!

Just made 78!
Shooting in the low 90′s…. from the whites.

Sat.& Sunday’s are Guy and Gal days.
No physical problems… until this year.
Left wrist…
Unil I saw your comments I thought it was an “age” thing.. and my golf days are ending!
My problems:
Distance off the tee.
Left wrist getting “worse-er”.
Suggestions?

Barry Klein,
Thanks Barry for the question, but need some info as to whats going on. you say you need distance and your left wrist is hurting. It sounds like your dumping the lag and may be chicken winging the shot. Do you slice the ball? Please give me some info as to your misses and typical ball flight and I will be glad to help.

CJ:
I just discovered your URL and I’m getting ready to part with the $60 for the DVD’s. I’m really hoping this is the real deal.
I love golf. I grew up playing in Syracuse, NY. I broke 80 for the first time on a US Open Qualifying Course (Onodaga GCC) when I was 12. I then played varsity golf as a freshman in HS (14). I was playing in all the Junior events at that time and I couldn’t get enough of the game. In the summer between my freshman and sophomore year of HS something just “happened”. My body began to really hurt every time I played. NOTHING worked to alleviate what I was feeling. Some faults found their way into my swing as a result of me trying to compensate for the pain. Suddenly a game I REALLY loved became an absolute nightmare to play. I played 1 hole my sophomore year and walked off the course. I picked up a lacrosse stick and quit golf for over a decade.
I started playing again in my late 20′s because a lot of my clients liked playing (the golf/football crazed place called OHIO). It took a little bit of time and effort but suddenly I enjoyed the game again despite the pain. I shot 2 over for 9 and then my biggest triumph was a 75 in a Club Championship match (Mayfield GCC). That’s the good news. The bad news is the pain I felt as a teenager had returned only WAAAAY worse. It took multiple Miller Lites for me to get through a round. When I turned 32 my left ankle swelled up to the size of a freaking basketball. It turned out I had rheumatoid arthritis. The version I have hits me in the lower back and ankles. When I got this news I was once again real close to playing very consistent golf (7 handicap).
I once again quit for a decade. Ironically, I now compete in triathlons and cycling events pain free (actually feel better). Work once again forced me to pick up the sticks last week. I cringed. I played 18 at a good course last Friday and then a scramble Monday. I really made myself “manage” the course on Friday, i.e. play what I call “old man” golf or driver, wedge, wedge. I had 3 pars in the first four holes. I ended up shooting 90 on a cold windy day and tough course. I lost a bunch of money in a 6-6-6 format but I had the low round of the group and things were starting to “click”. Monday it took about 2-3 holes and everything came together like magic. Once again that’s the good news. When I got home Monday I felt as though someone was holding a torch to my sacroiliac joints. I could barely get out of the car. I was having a very difficult time getting out of the cart (MUCH better game for me walking).
The big bad news here is that I have the darned golf flu again. I was surfing youtube looking at swings to somehow find a “better mousetrap” and I came across this. I really love golf. I am quite worried that I won’t be able to adequately teach myself via DVD. You are in Texas, yes? Can I come down for a week of lessons after I digest the DVD material? I’m going to go ahead with the program but I am a somewhat “slow” book learner. Thanks and God Bless.
JB
Jim,
Thanks Jim for the info and I am pleased you are getting back into the game. I guarantee you that the sun drill will help with your situation and soreness. You need to learn the proper body motion. Also take note of your setup of your right hip lower at address and this will make it easier. I would love for you to come see me in Dallas when you feel you are ready. Please contact damon at Damon@perfectconnectiongolfswing.com and he will set up the dates and can help you with travel arrangements if you need it. Best wishes.

Hi, my name is Daniel Goode. I had polio at 18 months old and have to wear a long leg brace on my left leg. It is a couple of inches shorter than the right. I have a 2inch build up on my left shoe. The rigid brace hinders my hips turning on my back swing. I can hit the ball straight but have no distance, and have a problem of lower body getting ahead too far in the downswing. Any ideas that would help?
Daniel Wayne Goode,
Thanks Daniel for the question. I want you to turn your left toe in about 45 degrees at address and make a few small slow swings to get the feeling of your lower body being restricted in the downswing. this will help keep your lower body from getting too far ahead. let me know if this helps.

Hi CJ,
Do you have a video in slow motion that shows you from address to window of opportunity? I think this is really a good video for all of us who learnt from your signature series.
Cheers.
Kenny Leow,
Thanks Kenny for the question. i know we shot some of these videos in slow motion for exactly this reason. I will talk to my tech guy and see if we can get it in the loop soon. Best wishes.

Watching the instruction videos and like what I see. Went to the practice range and was hitting the ball straighter. Is your swing similar to the stack and tilt or different ? Please explain. PS No backpain after a long session at the range !!
Dave R,
Thanks Dave for the question. My swing is not similar in any way to the STack and Tilt method. They teach to stay on the left side and to thrust your hips forward during the downswing towards the ball.

Hi CJ,
First thing first, I would like to thank you for your revolutionary approach to this golf swing. After watching your videos a couple of time, I’m now hitting the balls real straight like one straight line.
However, I have one question for you. I have been watching the top of the swing balance video. When you stand on the balance noodle to hit the ball, were your heels or toes touching the ground or they are not touching at all?
Cheers
Kenny Leow,
Thanks Kenny for the question. when standing on the noodle (remember be careful as this is hard). Your goal is to not have your heels or toes touching at all. You will only be able to make about a half swing or so depending on your balance. Let me know if this helps.
