Distance Control – Wedge Dilemma Solved

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again–one of the biggest differences between pros and amateurs is how the tour players can hit their approaches with surgical precision…

There’s no “secret” or hidden talent. They just know their short game, inside and out. And they know EXACTLY how to swing a wedge so the ball settles within a few feet of the pin.

And you can do it too…

    Hi CJ,and crew at PC
Firstly I’d like to tell you I won a tournament at my local course which I joined three months ago to get an idea of my handicap. My handicap is 20 and on a course where par is 66 I shot a 77 the first time under eighty. So I won on 9under and I was shocked I’ve never won anything in my life but I was totally stoked. I received a cup a digital camera and I won $60 for closet to the pin on one hole. So everyone at PC keep those tips and drills coming and my only request is to put some slow motion in some of your tips/drills.
    Happy golfer Jens

    Thanks CJ

I picked up your point on the half and 3/4 swing stance and applied it to my game at our local mashie course. I dropped 5 strokes from last time just because I planned and approached my distance better. Still a lot of work to be done, but its really a lot of fun getting there now that there is more method behind the madness!

    Awesome!

    Thanks CJ!

  3. Chuck Johnson says:

For the past year or so I have been “SHANKING” my wedge and short irons around the green on my approachs.

I believe that my problem is just prior to making contact with the ball my right hand/arm extends out and causes me to hit the ball with the hosel of the iron.

No matter what I try I can not fix this problem.

    Please help.

    Thank you……Chuck Johnson

      Chuck johnson,
Thanks Chuck for the question. Film your swing from down the line with your phone or a camera. Onlineskillscoach.com has a free app that you can use to watch your swing in slow motion. You can also draw lines. When viewing your chipping from down-the-line is the club coming back to the inside or outside of that line in the backswing. Please let me know and I will give you some tips to help you.
