    CJ,
When I first started playing golf they gave me a set of clubs and said “Hit it”. No one ever told or even better showed me how the club is supposed to strike the ball. I see pros take divots that you could plant a corn field in and others who take no divot at all. Could you do a video or some graphics that explains exactly how the club is supposed to strike the ball.
    Mac

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Mac,
Thanks Mac for the question. I will take that into consideration when I film next. the key is to understand that different swing planes create different divots and when you may be watching one pro vs another they may be using different clubs. The grass pros are hitting off of will make a difference depending on what part of the country so try not to worry so much about the size of the divot. Hope this clears up any confusion, but there are major factors that can influence the divots. Best wishes

    Hi C J.
Thank you for your trouble to assist me , I have changed from a Calaway to a Japanese Driver, and boy what a difference the shaft is like a new engine and i have gained about 54 yards , so i am happy , I wonder if the past shaft was too stiff, as i have gone from the stiff to s-r , At times i still fall back from my bad right knee being left handed, Yesterday when i played i hit the ball so well i ended up 6 over, not too bad after all my frustration with a not well fitting driver, my fault as i fitted them all myself to what i get the most feel with.
Thanks again and will let you know more later on this great driver,
    Ken

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Kenneth Gamble,
Your welcome Ken and keep up the great work. Thats amazing that you picked up 54 yards by changing drivers. Keep it up and please keep me informed and let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
      Keep em Long and Straight,
      CJ

      • kenneth Gamble says:

        CJ,
Thanks for your help, i believe now that the shaft was far too stiff, for me to get the right speed to the ball, i think all due to a bad right knee,
Thanks again and i will keep u informed,
        Ken

        • CJ Goecks says:

          Kenneth Gamble,
Your welcome Ken for the advice and thanks for writing back to me. Please keep me informed and let me know if you have any other questions.

  3. Ed Klar says:

You indicate you can add 30 yards to my driving distance. I currently hit about 260 yards on a solid drive – no wind or excessive roll or hard fairways. I am 66 years old and you are promising I will hit the ball 290 and yet I know no one my age [most of whom are better golfers than me] who can drive the ball 290 yards [even the 3-4-5 handicapers I know. Am I reading your claim correctly?

  4. Bob Norman says:

I have watched your iron and driver sessions and have not seen anything on ball position. Since the lower part of the “Y” is always down the middle of your stance is the ball position down the middle for all clubs. What is your advise on ball position?

    Thanks

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Bob Norman,
Thanks Bob for the question. ball position should be middle of your stance for short clubs and slightly forward of that for mid-irons. The driver should be played opposite your left heel. the total distance from center of your stance to left heel is only about 2 1/2 ball widths so that should narrow down where the ball should be played. Hope this helps.

I love the perfect connection. I picked it up about 3 months ago and I have gotten about 10 stokes off so far. But my game is getting better every time, mostly because I have confidence in my swing. I am tennis teaching pro, and I know from experience that confidence in your stroke and trusting the form is key to playing both sports. THANK YOU SOOOOO much you are the man and a have been recommending your system to every golfer I know.

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Desmond,
Thanks Desmond for the kind words and congratulations on your success so far. PLease let me know if you have any questions and I will be glad to help.

Hi CJ! Just want to update you with my progress using your DVD and tips. Early this year my Australian Golf Handicap is at 36. I bought your DVD and practice and played almost every weekend. Now my AGU is 27 approximately 8 months of using your technique together with. I printed my game history and wanted to show you but I do not know where to upload. Thank you.

PS. I bought Bobby’s DVDs too and helped me with my driver. Thank you again for introducing me to his secrets.

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Ray,
Thanks for the blog post and congratulations on your recent improvements. Thats awesome. Have you watched the short game DVD yet? I truly believe this dvd can really sharpen your short game and get you a lot lower scores. Let me know if you have any questions…Thats why I am here.

Thanks CJ, I uploaded my video I believe to the right place. It is interesting after watching the video I think I see a major problem. Anxious too get your feedback which is so important to me. After all your videos got me back on the course after a back injury that left me unable to play for years.

    You the Man

  9. kenneth Gamble says:

Hi CJ, Thyanks you for your advise, i seem to be hitting the ball much easier, but i still cannot get the distance, I can hit my 2 Iron just as far around 220 yard , when i play it costs me because i cannot get in range for a 7 down Iron shot, I am useingt the Taylor made r9 , set at N, and the weight seems to be ok , i am getting angry with myself , as my friends are hitting the ball around the 24 on this is not good for me, Maybe i need to change woods with a stiff shaft in it,
    Ken

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Kenneth Gamble,
Thanks Kenneth for the question. You say you are not hitting the driver far enough, but can hit your two iron just as far. My question is whether or not you were fit for the driver. Please find a good fitter and this can be figured out very quickly. Please keep me informed on your progress and please provide more info as ball flight etc and I will be glad to help.

  12. I hate you, I hate you, I hate you.

after 12 years of spraying drives & other shots, I changed just 2 things: my grip and my swing plane as per your method, and there she flies – straight, straight straight!

I love you, I love you, I love you!

  13. Kenneth Gamble says:

Hi CJ, if you read this,,
I at one time was playing from a 2 handicap, some years ago i had an accident (military) so cannot say why or how, i now have a bone replacment in my right knee fromm 4 inche above and 5 inches from the knee, is all tiatanium now, I am also a left handed goler.
with this injury i cannot get weight onto my right leg having been to many pros with no real good results, how can i change my swing to compersate to this injury, i hit irons well but canot hit a wood, where i must move the weight to front leg which i cannot do what and where can i start the right location for my foof as cannot roll onto the ancle .
    Ken

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Kenneth Gamble,
Thanks Kenneth for the question. If your on your back foot that won’t hurt you as much with a wood. You can get away with this because the ball is teed up. Knowing your problem you have to have a steep downswing and this is causing the problems with the woods. You need to flatten your downswing (more from the inside) and this will fix your issue. Please let me know if this helps.

  14. robert says:

    Hi CJ,

Can you give me advice on how to eliminate hitting off center hits on the toe of the clubface? I think part of my problem is that I come over the top creating an outside to inside swing path due to my shoulders opening to early prior to impact. Thank you.

    Robert

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Robert,
Thanks Robert for the question. First check you fundamentals and make sure your distance from the ball is correct. Remember its a fist and a thumb from your zipper. Check that first and let me know if this helps and we will go from here.

  15. CJ:

I had abdominal surgery earlier this year, and struggled to hit the ball like I had been before all season. I finally talked to my doctor about it, and he, along with my pro, told me that it takes at least a year for it to fully heal and be back to where it was before. Are you familiar with the Momentus Swing Trainer (no advertising here, just a question)? I have one of those, and have considered a hittable heavy driver to help my core muscles get stronger. My driver has a 60 gram-stiff shaft on it (Adila red), and all my clubs are stiff shafted because that’s what I had been playing for most of my time in golf. I was hanging with people half my age before my surgery, but I lost about 10 yards or so. I was wanting to know if using a weighted swing trainer and heavy hittable driver would be helpful in getting back those yards. I have also considered a shaft change back to regular, but my pro recommends that I stay with stiffs. I also racewalk competitively, so I know my legs will be okay. Do you have any other ideas that could help me?

  16. Mike says:

Hi CJ, bought your digital series and I’m doing well with the “L” swing. My BIGGEST fault right now is 20-70yd tight lie/over bunker to green shots. Is there any advice you can give to help me get it up and down from 70yds and in? Do I keep using the “L” swing that close? Thanks CJ, I appreciate your help. -Mike (Temecula)

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Mike,
Thanks Mike for the question. First I have to ask about your course management. Why are you leaving yourself a tight 20-50 yard shot over a bunker to a tight pin. This is a hard shot and you need to error long of the pin in this situation. The L will still be used, but only if the swing length is needed. You may not need the L with only 20 yards. The key to hitting this shot though is to make sure your nose and shirt buttons are ahead of the ball at setup. Now simply open the clubface and swing the appropriate length for the shot needed. I would recommend laying back however to a length of swing that will produce enough spin to stop the ball quickly in this situation.
      Keep em Long and Straight,
      CJ

      • Mike says:

Thanks CJ for the reply. I generally try to stay 80-100yd and out, but miss hits or close on Par 5′s in two leave me those unkind 20-60yd shots. Your help sounds spot on so I’ll try it at the range. – Mike

      • CJ and Mike:

The best players have been known to try to take these kinds of shots out of play (unless they are in real trouble somewhere), and play to a spot where they can hit a full shot into a green. I see it all the time with people I play with – they try to get the most distance they can, but then leave themselves with a shot that requires them to hit something they may not be entirely capable of. All they care about is bashing the ball as long as they can from the tee, but they don’t always think about where they will be hitting their second shot from. As the legendary golf pro and instructor Tommy Armour said, “play the shot that you can play well, and play the shot that makes the next one easy.” Armour’s book “How To Play Your Best Golf All The Time” is one of my golfing Holy Bibles. He does recommend that people develop a good short game, and says that is the surest route to lower scores. And I’m inclined to agree. But I’m with CJ in asking why anyone would put themselves through an unnecessary test.

  17. Clayton says:

Just wanted to drop you Thank You for you’re Perfect Connection Series videos. I am 51 years old and only started playing in Aug. 2011 when a frend needed a person to fill out foursome for a scramble he was in that and a person droped out on last day. I told him that I had some old that had belonged to my wifes granddad. So I went and played and was hooked. Saw you’re web site when looking at course website ordered the series watched and practiced had to get better. Last sunday my seventh round at Cleburne Golf Links and shot a 86 when I had been a 120. Was pumped all week waiting for today to play again. I went to the course ony two miles from my house and where I had working on my swing at the driving range Squaw Valley in Glen Rose. Played both the Apache Links and the Comanche Lakes shotting a 96 on the Links and a 86 on the Lakes courses.
I was put with two golfers by the starter at start of the day,and they just keep saying can’t believe you have only been playing three mounths. Once on a long par four hole hit another long 280 plus drive stright down the middle of the fairway, one of them made commit you’re swing is funny looking with only a 3/4 swing the club only going to a upright postion like a baseball swing, but when you come around on the ball it smouth and true just golden.
Thank You again, I am getting better every day I just wish I had started playing sonner in my life. Better late than never now all I want to do is play. Can’t get over how pirty some of the courses are and how allsome some of the holes are. But the best part is to not be scared of them nowing you have the Perfect Connection in you’re bag.

    Having more fun every day
    Clayton

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Clayton,
Thanks Clayton for the kind words and congratulations on your success. that is awesome success for only playing for three months. Keep up the good work. Please keep me informed on your progress. You may hit a wall in your improvement, but I recommend going back to watching the videos especially the short game series and this will help out a bunch. Best wishes.

  18. John Wagner says:

    Hi CJ,
Nice Information. I downloaded the video series and have viewed most of the videos. The information is great. After viewing the videos I did not remember seeing anything about ball placement. In your videos it appears that you set the ball in the center except your putting tip showed under your left eye. What do you recommend? I have a problem topping the ball but after reviewing some comments I will be practicing the L and L drill. Thank for your time.

    • CJ Goecks says:

      John Wagner,
Thanks John for the question. In regards to ball position you want your short irons in the middle of your stance. With your driver you want the ball off your left instep. All your other clubs will fit in between this area, but ultimately there is about a 2 1/2 ball width between the middle of your stance and the driver ball position.

C.J., Just received your 4 DVD Bundle Package last week. I am a 65 year old golfer. I have played for over 40 years and taken lessons several times. All of the pros were good, especially in Kingwood, TX, but as you know everyone has a little different approach to the golf swing. Your Perfect Connection golf swing puts the mechanics of the golf swing in it’s simplest terms and I feel is great for seniors who have no business trying to make a “big” turn. There is an abundance of material in your DVD’s, but you keep it “simple”. I am a lefty but I have always viewed videos with the idea of looking in a mirror. Currently I am working on your towel drill to stay connected and avoid the dreaded “lateral shot” that has crept into my “old” game. Keep up the good work!! Brian Carpenter Nacogdoches, TX

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Brian Carpenter,
Thank you Brian for the kind words. It really does make me happy to hear students telling me that they enjoy the material that I have produced. Thanks for reversing the words to a lefty. I am releasing a lefty version next week and if you want a real laugh you will see me try my best at some left handed swings. Keep in touch although I don’t think I will go to Nacagdoches as crown colony is too tough a course. It may be fun to play not in the winter or with a tour balata since thats the last time I played it. I didn’t appreciate hitting 2 iron into 17 with swirling winds and 39 degrees LOL. Best wishes

    Hi

I am playing golf since november last year. I didn’t have so much experience. I have still a problem when I am playing on the course with topping the ball. When I am practising on the drive range there is no problem but on the fairway or other parts of the course I am often topping my ball. What could be the problem?
    Thanks

    Thierry

    • CJ Goecks says:

      De Bilde Thierry,
Thanks Thierry for the question and the info on your game. Keep working on the L to L drill. You are a beginner so there are many things that go into hitting good shots on the course. It simply could be the lie and your not adjusting to the terrain. You must be able to adjust. In my course management DVD I discuss these different lies so I encourage you to get that DVD as that will help you a lot at this point. Please keep in touch and let me know your thoughts on the DVD.

  25. David says:

    Hi CJ,
My handicap is coming down nicely and I shot a net 65 couple of weeks ago. In the 65 I had a 10 on a par 5, it was a very nice round where everything went where I wanted it to, unfortunately haven’t been able to replicate it. When the tempo and swing comes to me I can easily rattle of 4-5 pars in a row. Last week I started pulling ALL my full shots but still managed to scramble to play to my handicap. I started using the L to L as part of my routine with my feet together to try to create some muscle memory but it didn’t work. Do you have any suggestions as to how I can keep this under control in the middle of a game should it happen again. Can you suggest a practice drill to rmove it?

    • CJ Goecks says:

      David,
Thanks David for the question. You need to work on the table top drill. Your issue is you need to turn in the backswing and this will help with the pull. Your club is coming over the top so you need to feel like it is coming more from inside. The L to L drill with your feet together will not allow you to turn as much so lets stop doing this for a bit. Keep me informed and let me know if this helps

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Ray,
thanks Ray for the question and your welcome for the tips. Thank you for watching. The best videos for distance are maximum Power. this DVD will give you a bunch of info to help you hit the ball farther. Plus its not just tips. CJ I love your tips and find them very informative. By using them I have improved my game quite a bit. I have one major problem and that is shanking short chips just off the green. I cannot seem to correct it and this problem costs me about 5-6 strokes in a round.

Any help would be most appreciated.

    Thanks in advance, Mark

  28. Jeff says:

Hi CJ, I saw some immediate results, but seem to be back to my old misses. I am a 6 handicap who hits the ball far. But my misses off the tee is what balloons my score. My miss is low left or push right. I know it is because I come from the inside too much but can’t seem to get the right feeling. If I try to shorten my take away, i don’t feel like i complete it and the downswing feels rushed. Thanks! Jeff

  29. Mike says:

    Hi CJ,

I’m hooking the ball, worse with the driver of course, and I’ve purchased the digital series. Which video or help can you give me to help correct this and keep me straight? 16.5 index. I’ve watched your “hook” video, checked my grip (neutral), but can’t watch my backswing.

    - Mike

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Mike,
Thanks Mike for the question. Your issue is the club is coming too much from the inside on the downswing. Try hitting some knockdown shots and practice hitting some balls off of downhill lies focusing on taking a divot after the ball. This will steepen the club in the downswing and have you hitting the ball straighter.
      Keep em Long and Straight,
      CJ

  30. Mike says:

    Hi CJ,

I’ve been watching your youtube videos for the last 3 months and decided to buy the digital series. I’m a 16 handicap now, was once a 8.5. Came very close many times to quiting. Best round was 78, worst is about 110 in the past year. I’ve sold my Taylormade TP irons and bought the 2.0′s. Now I can hit it further but still can’t score better than 86 in the last few months. I’m stuck. I can hit my 4i 240yds and hit the middle of fairway 80-90% of the time. But for the life of my I can’t hit an 20-90yd shot without hitting fat, thin, topped, shanked from perfect fairway lies and now I’m hooking my driver 80% of the time. I can hit my driver at least 270yds and it used to be my favorite club, but now I’m losing hope. So, my issue, short game inside 90yds and driver hooking. If I play a 380yd par4 I’ll play 4i to 230-240yds, hit my Gap (130yd) or Pitch Wedge (145yd). Back when I was a 8.5 index my 100yd and in shots were all pin seekers, not anymore. Now its hope and pray. God I hope your short game/driver series can help me. Now I chip from 40yds out and run the ball up to the green :-(

PS – I’ve tried your WALL idea on my backswing from the tee and although I may “push” a 220yd 5i or 240yd 4i OB, my second ball off the tee with same swing is pure, far, and right down the middle. Just need to trust and get used to that idea, but that seems to work.

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Mike,
Thanks Mike for the question. Ultimately the reason you are struggling is because the club is too much from inside on the downswing. this is why you hook the driver and sometimes push it and the reason why your short shots are troublesome. Keep working up the wall and work on some knockdown shots. Your struggling right now because of feel vs real. You need to over exaggerate the feeling for awhile. Use a camera to record the backswing from down the line and you will see this issue. If you need to you can send me your swing for analysis. Best wishes.

I played golf on 10/29/11–No more pain on left shoulder or neck muscles BUT still had 10 strokes off my game. I’m playing better and golf is fun again. Thanks for the mini-lessons.
    Sincerely

This is my first contact since purchasing your ‘Perfect Connection Golf Swing Package’ earlier this summer. I was actually thinking about quitting the game as I seemed to be going backwards in my game the last 2 years. I am 61 years old and thought the game was only going to continue getting worse.
I am so glad that I decided to give it one last try by purchasing your package and what a difference it has made to my game and my all around enjoyment playing again. I am driving it as far as I did in my 30′s & 40′s, my iron game is better than it ever has been and putting is better but still needs constant work.
Your Instructional Program is laid out very well and makes practice enjoyable. I am able to pick small areas of the game to work on at my own pace, which works better for me than crowding the whole game into a few local lessons.
I enjoy your weekly mini clinics with tips on different aspects of the game and find them great refreshers and reminders.
Up here in Canada the golf season is almost over but I am already looking forward to getting back out there in the spring.
Keep up the good work and thank you for renewing my interest and enthusiasm for this great game.
    Regards,
    Dwain

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Dwain Stone,
thank you so much for the feedback and kind words Dwain. I truly am sincere when I say that nothing makes me happier than to know I was able to help someone enjoy this great game again and also to the point that you were ready to give up the game. Keep up the great work and enjoy the beautiful winter in Canada. I will be releasing some videos that will deal with off-season stuff so keep watching.

    Hi C.J

I must say your videos are just great with lots of information.
I have tried your drills and it seems to work for me.
Sure not all the time but that’s why I keep practicing.

I jut have a little problem ( I always had it ) and that’s when I finished my setup etc etc and I want to start my backswing I always have the feeling that I get very tense ( my hands, arms, wrists )!!!

Sometimes I don’t know if to start moving the club backwards with first my left hand or right hand or my shoulders or whatsoever.

Do you have any tips what exactly has to be done in order to not have this feeling and take the club smoothly back on the backswing ??

Many thanks in advance C.J !!!!!

    Thomas

    • CJ Goecks says:

      TC,
Thanks TC for the question. First to solve your problem make sure you are waggling the club at address any time you look at your target. Second I recommend trying a forward press with your hands. Simply before you take the club back push your hands slightly to the target to create a bit of motion and then swing back with your hands first and let the body follow on the backswing. Let me know if this helps.

      • TC says:

        Hi CJ,

Thanks a lot for the tip.

It worked pretty good although I have to do it constantly in order to get the feeling !!!
What I realized is once I press my hands forward I tend to kind of ” over press ” ( I guess ) and the balls go a bit more to the left than wanted !!!

Anyow, that’s why we all keep practicing … smiley !!!

Once again many thanks for all your great tips !!

        TC

Thanks for getting back to me and your welcome. Keep up the good work and keep writing in.

  34. Steve Syder says:

    CJ,

I’m sure some people will think the claims in my post are an exagerrated marketing ploy, but you and I know they are true.

I wrote to you on Monday to say that 13 days after I bought your bundle of DVDs I shot SEVEN under par and could not believe the transformation.

Well, I’d better believe it, because four days later I just shot TEN under par!

The difference your technique has made to my game is just incredible, and beyond even what I hoped for. I have never hit so many fairways and greens in regulation, and I’m just loving the game.

At 55, and having struggled to move off a 22 handicap for years, I can’t wait for my next club competition.

Thanks again for your superb videos!

    Steve,

    • CJ Goecks says:

      steve Syder,
What??????? Ten under par???? Seriously? or is this ten under your handicap? Please let me know. Either way heck I am elated. Best wishes and talk to you soon. That is a great story. Lets go on tour. Remember I get 5% of winnings. Lol Talk to soon.

        CJ,

Sorry, I meant to put “net 10 under”!

Your instruction is great but not that great!

        Cheers,

        Steve

        • CJ Goecks says:

          Steve,
Thanks Steve for the correction. i was going to say Wow. Either way great job and keep it up. Talk to you soon.

  35. Andrew Gossage says:

    Dear CJ,
I am a PGA pro from Australia living in Switzerland & have enjoyed watching some of your video lessons. You are doing a great job with one minor exception, constantly referring to “Amateurs” do this & that mistake..maybe you should add “higher handicap” to your referal to amateurs as there are plently of decent low handicap “amateurs” that would whip more than a few pros that dont make all of these mistakes that you refer to..!
please take this critique in a good spirit that i intend it.
    Kind regards,
    Andrew Gossage.

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Andrew Gossage,
Thanks Andrew for the kind critique. i truly do appreciate that, and you are correct about some low handicap players. I am constantly looking to improve my teaching as well as my delivery so I will take this in the kind spirit. Thanks again for the kind words and best wishes to you. Please keep in touch and best wishes to you.

  36. Mike Ski says:

Hi CJ…I really Love the videos! I have been practicing in my garage and love how it feels! Very Easy on my back, which will help my game a lot! I do have one question, It seems to me that I need to shorten the length of my clubs, even my driver. Is this something that is common or am I doing something wrong? Cant wait to see the rest of the videos!!

    Mike

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Mike Ski,
thanks Mike for the feeback and the post. You are welcome for the videos and thank you for giving me your thoughts. In regards to club length I have to recommend getting fit from a club fitter. I am not sure what length your clubs are nor do I know your height or swing. These are questions that a good club fitter could answer very quickly. Best wishes.

    • CJ Goecks says:

  38. Steven says:

    Hi CJ,
I bought it and started using the on-line right away. Wow – with the irons I was hitting them great. I am struggling with the driver as usual — went back and watched the driver series again and will go out and hit a bucket today. When I lower the hip and drag back like you said to do on the driver — I think my head must be too far back…not sure….it could have been my swing plane – I will check the wall behind me today. I was very inconsistent — either hooking or many time hitting a sky ball….also – sometimes I hit the ground too — seem cramped even using your set up – how about the three wood on the set up — I like that club off the tee….I am loving my iron shots….very excited. I want to get the woods dialed in…Thanks Again

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Steven,
Thanks for the feedback Steven. Please keep me informed on how your practice session went. I don’t want you to worry about the wall drill with the driver. The driver is longer and therefore it must be swung a bit flatter than the other clubs, but you don’t need to worry about it. The length of the club will do that for you. nail the setup, work on the swing with the irons, and let the swing blend in with the driver. Please give me more info about the misses you are hitting. These seem uncommon for all of them to go together so lets keep talking.

    what does moderation mean ?

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Barrie Swan,
Thanks Barrie for the question. Moderation is doing things with less extremes. I am not sure where I used this word so I am not sure the reference you are making. Best wishes and let me know if you have any questions.

  40. Gary says:

Used the Perfect Connection system for the first time today and came away very encouraged. Did not slice my drive and my iron play felt pretty good. Been playing for a couple years and really appreciate your visual of holding a nerf ball inside your forearms, hinging my wrist earlier and my right hand has more of a palm fit on my grip. Overall very pleased and excited about playing again.

    • CJ Goecks says:

      Gary,
Thanks for writing in and keeping me informed. i am glad your excited again about golf. Keep up the good work and let me know how it goes. Let me know if you have any questions.
