What is the proper weight distribution for the driver, long irons, hybrids and short irons. I have not ran across this in your videos.
Paul,
Thanks Paul for the question. The weight distribution for the driver should be 60% on your right side while irons are 50/50. The short irons depend on if your hitting a full swing. If your making a swing that is not a full swing than it should be slightly left. Hope this answers your question.

Dave,
Thanks for the blog post and the info. Can you please tell me the direction of your misses. I understand that your losing distance, but I need info. Thanks and talk to you soon.

CJ
CJ: Most of my shots are straight, just less distance. Now if I error I will typically be left of target line. Almost never hook or draw the ball. Ocassionally I may fade slightly off the tee but not usually slice. I do not try and work the ball ever. I could not draw my driver on a bet but I usually hit it down the middle.
Dave,
Thanks for getting back to me. have you been fit for your clubs? this will make a huge difference. In regards to the loss of distance I can only think that you may be thinking technically right now and are not able to swing freely. This is typical of someone learning to drive a stick shift for the first time. It sounds like your hitting it solid, but you may be making slower swings while making changes. Don’t worry if this is the case as this is normal, but lets keep talking and I will do everything to help you.

First let me describe myself. I am short (5′ 7″), and at 175 lbs a little heavy for my height but I am active and in decent shape at 68. I started playing golf at age 45. My game improved until I reached a handicap of 15 after I had been playing for about 10 years. My handicap has steadily increased over the last 7-8 years to 20-21 and shows every sign of getting worse. Over the years most of my bad shots have been hooks and pull hits although I do hit my share of slices. I generally do not hit the ball very high and I have never hit the ball far. Regarding distance I now have trouble driving the ball over 150 yards. All this has not helped my confidence and in fact has led me to swinging harder and harder.
I have been using your DVDs for a few weeks now and have made little progress. In fact I am playing about as poor a game of golf as I ever have. At this point I often hit the ground behind the ball. When I do make contact I frequently hit weak, low slices. I also hit “pop ups” far too often. Sometimes I top the ball. I occasionally do make solid contact and have hit a few good shots.
Any suggestions as to how I can get more out of your DVDs.
JDM
JDM,
Thanks JDM for the information. You have to understand that when your making changes you might need to over exaggerate the feeling. Feel and Real are two different things. Ultimately the shots your describing are coming from too steep a downswing and possibly a slide ahead of the ball. For fun i want you to practice hitting drivers off your knees. If your too steep you will hit the ground before the ball. Work on this and grab the feeling of your arms rotating better and around your body. Let me know how this works out.
Keep em Long and Straight,
CJ
