Do you have golf schools? where can I find a schedule?
Warren,
Thanks Warren for the question about golf schools. I will be sending out an email this week about golf schools so keep watching. As of right now they will all be in Dallas, however I am looking at adding sites in New York, Michigan, possibly Missouri, Florida, and in Europe this summer. We will let everyone know with some emails.

Sir: I appreciate your instruction that gives good advice. The hard part to bring into focus is my age (76). I have 8 handicap on Friday for 18 holes. This is from the senior tees. Every thing I do in golf anymore is like climbing Mt Everlasting. Not many birdies, except those flying over. I am having trouble excepting my score going up instead of down. I have to complain to someone; my wife doesn’t know what I am talking about. Thanks for listening. RC
Roger Cain,
Thanks Roger for the blog post. I am sorry that your score seems to be going up with your age, but remember that now is the time to really implement the improved short game. At 76 there isn’t really any way you can hit it as far as some 30 year olds, but your knowledge and experience should make up for it.

CJ, I am hitting all my shots espcecially the wedges fat. This is very evident from my divots which indicates that I am hitting well behnd the ball. What could be the problem?
Don,
Thanks Don for the question. There could be several issues that are causing you to hit the wedges fat. The easiest way to work on this is to improve your body rotation by working on the table top drill. Work on this and feel the proper rotation of your body and this will have you hitting your wedges way better. Please let me know if you do not know what the table top drill is and I will try to explain it to you.

I play golf one handed, I use only my left hand to hold on to the club. I use right handed clubs. I am trying to use the L drill… to improve my swing and distance. It trying this at the range i have pain in my lower back. What am I doing wrong?
Tom Dardenne,
Thanks Tom for the question. The reason you are having lower back pain is due to the one handed swing. The club weighs a lot since you are swinging one handed and it is difficult for you to control this. the easiest way for you would be to feel like your hips work a bit slower and let your arms pass your body and then let the club pull your body through. This will create less Reverse C and will eliminate the back pain. Let me know if this helps.

CJ
CJ, I just watched your explanation of hitting a cut shot in order to take out the left side of the fairway. You of course mention aiming
left and your feet did turn left. What I didn’t hear was
aiming the clubshaft at your target and swinging along your
body line. Otherwise of course you would hit a pull. I think this would help amateurs.
Sal Piccolo,
Thanks Sal for the blog post. It should be aim your club face at the target and swing along the body line. I’m not sure if I made the mistake or you did when you said clubshaft. Anyways I hope we got this clarified…Aim your body where you want the ball to start and aim your clubface where you want the ball to finish and swing along your body line.

CJ, unless I missed something, I didn’t see you incorporate a practice
swing in your pre-shot routine. Do you take one? Any suggestion
on where you take it, how many and anything else you may add. Thanks
Sal
Sal Piccolo,
Thanks for the question about no practice swings. I sometimes make practice swings and sometimes don’t . having the same number of practice swings in your pre-shot routine is not necessary or recommended. You want to take as many practice swings as needed to feel the proper feeling for the shot . After doing my calculations and envisioning the shot I want to hit I would do a few practice swings and then start my routine with my trigger and go through the routine. Hope this answers your question.

I am a very thick chested person. I can not swing across my chest maybe 10 – 15 degrees. This leads to my left arm breaking down at the top and then my right arm breaks down because of it. I am a 8 handicap but my swing looks like well I will nice not very good and rely to much on timing. I am trying to get back to working on your method but was wondering if you were teaching someone like me would it help to be more bent over or I have been trying to swing my left shoulder down and in to create more room for my arms to swing.Would you have any suggestions kind sir.
Mike,
thanks Mike for the question. I have many students like yourself. The key is to create some flexibility for you. Take your normal setup and then drop your right foot back about six inches and flare your right foot out (point your toes to the right a bit). This will allow you to turn bettter. I want your swing thought to be to turn your left shoulder behind the ball. Do not try to swing your left shoulder down and in as this will not allow you to turn and will only get your arms sucked against your chest more. Let me know if this makes sense and how your doing. If we talk I know I can fix you.
Keep em Long and Straight,
CJ
CJ
Thank you. Yes that makes perfect sense.I have pulled the right foot back in the past and it does work six inches maybe pushing it a bit but will start with 3 and go from there.
I actually seen this in one of your early videos but cant find it. I have also read this in Jim Sutties laws of golf book years ago.
I will keep you informed.
Mike,
Thanks Mike for getting back to me. I am glad that makes sense and please keep me informed. Best wishes.

In noticing the video at the start of this, it appears to me that it has been slowed down slightly. Or, is this the actual swing? If it the actual swing, it just seems way slower than my normal swing. Should I be trying to slow down a bit?
Thanks,
Bob
Bob Warden,
Thanks Bob for the question. My swing was slowed down in the video so don’t try to swing that slow. Hope this answers your question.

HI CJ
I have purchased your DVD’s and have been watching and practicing for about a month. I have improved, however lately i am really struggling….. I am hitting all my iron shots (3-SW) almost along the ground with a massive slice. Once i do it with one shot every shot does the same. On the range if i go to the ”L” to ”L” drill i hit the ball almost perfect, good flight and almost perfect direction!!!!!! As soon as i widen my feet and take a normal stance i go bace to the extemely low massive slice. I feel i am doing the same swing. I know its something relly simple and if i can fix it im sure i will be a good player.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Cheers
Brendan.
Brendan Sheather,
Thanks Brendan for the question and I understand your struggle. The problem your dealing with is feel vs real. When you widen your stance you go back to your old swing, which in this case is to slide ahead of the ball. This slide is causing the low slice. When your feet are together you turn versus slide or you would fall over. You must continue to work on this drill a lot and then very slightly widen your feet. Then after success widen your feet again slightly. You will struggle at times, but you need to go back to the L to L drill to get the feeling. This is normal so please don’t get discouraged. If you could change your swing to perfect in a day then why wouldn’t everyone be on the PGA Tour. Please keep me informed on your progress.

CJ
Thanx for the reply. I have been to the range twice now played a practice 9 holes. Hitting the L-L drill has really helped. The feel of the swing is slowly coming natural to me, but most of all if i do hit the low slice i know exactly what i am doing wrong.
Thanx again
Brendan
Brendan,
Thanks Brendan for getting back to me and letting me know how your doing. Keep up the good work and let me know how your progressing.

CJ: Is there a ” Perfect Connection Golf School” in the Jacksonville, Fl. area?? I need instructions!!! Please advise. Thanks, Charlie Lewis
Playing golf for 48 years, I have a decent game but leave way too many strokes on the course. I purchased the 7 DVD Bundle Package and have already seen fixes for errors I have been doing all along, e.g. chipping technique – find the flat spot and use the club and shot to land there! Also the more upright driver swing is easier to repeat, keeps me from swaying, and gives me a better release. Thanks! I can’t wait to view all 7 DVD’s.
Dave Savage,
Thank you Dave for your support of PCGS. Please keep me informed on your thoughts and if you have any questions that I can help you with. Best wishes and talk to you soon.

I am trying to locate your instruction on proper ball position for different clubs. I am sure I must be overlooking it in the several packages that I have purchased.
Thanks
Rick
Rick Stafford,
Thanks Rick for the question. Ball position was not covered in the Signature Series so you haven’t made a mistake. the key to remember is that wedges and short irons will be played near the middle of stance and the Driver will be played off your left heel. The other clubs should fit in between there but it is only a couple of ball widths different from the driver to the wedges. I hope this clears up any confusion.

Hello again C.J.
I am looking for a system to stop the out to in swing (dont forget i am left handed and it is my right leg that is not good for taking my weight freely) I have started to do the Jim Fenik loop which has really helped me to get the in to out swing going, But this take a lot of concentration to complete the swing freely and easy ,
Have you any ideas to assist me in this matter.
Ken
Ken,
Thanks Ken for the question. Ultimately what your describing as the Furyk loop is the club going outside which means it is easier to drop it to the inside. I think what your doing is a feel versus an actual loop. In the PCGS swing we want the club up the wall which is a bit more upright than the “conventional” swing and but not upright. This may provide the feeling of the Furyk loop your describing, but remember if you are taking the club to the inside in the backswing then you have no choice but to come over the top in the downswing so therefore this feeling is good for you. My DVD will help you create a swing that is on plane but if your simply asking for a feel for the downswing then I think you have found it or imagine the club is coming from 4 o’clock to 10 o’clock on a clock face and that will help you out. Hope this helps. Please let me know.

CJ,
Let me congratulate on your ongoing effort to provide golf tips and care for your fellow golfers. I have watched your videos with special attention to the video introduction swing many, many times and have come to the conclusion that there is move, beyond the bump, that allows you to make such a smooth transition from backswing to upswing. I also like the no divot consequence. I suspect it is in some unknown movement of the left side or left leg which allows for this smoothness but I would like to know your precise thoughts on the forward move. Thanks. That said, I can relate to you that as an amateur I have coached at the Division 1 NCAA level, won several state titles and have played in the masters. I like your basic putting drills and believe that I could help you with a couple of thoughts that would improve your putting. Hope you can find time to respond. Thanks
CJ,
An update. Based on your recommendation, My angle of attack is improving, but now I’m starting to hit a lot of pulls and pull hooks. Please clarify your recommendation about hitting from downhill lies. Do you mean when the slope is tilted down toward the target or when you’re on a side hill with the ball below your feet? I’ve hit balls from this position before and found it to be beneficial.
Could you please make one of your tips a short clip on how to correctly practice the knockdown shot using your up the wall method?
thanks,
Jim Gift
JIm Gift,
Thanks Jim for the question. The downhill lie that I was recommending was with the tilt going towards the target. If you use the ball below your feet it will get you steeper on the donwswing for sure which it sounds like you have done. Simply hit some balls and don’t work on your swing for awhile and your tendency to get the club a bit flatter will come back…Just Don’t Over Do It!

CJ,
Been working on your techniques for a couple of months and they have been very useful. I have one question and that is, after I get done playing a round of golf my left index finger and knuckle is extremely sore. I was told that fat grips may help. I also have changed my grip style but this has not seemed to do much in the way of alleviating this problem. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Mike Ellis,
thanks Mike for the question. Fatter grips have helped people with arthritis so you may want to look into that. I would first start and look at your grip. Do you use interlocking grip or overlapping? Are you gripping the club too tight? Thats where I would start. Let me know and lets talk.

Hi CJ
I have had to cancel my subscription to the Insiders Club due to my current financial situation !!
Didn’t want to, but needs must…
So, while I can still ‘log in’ and before I ‘get the chop’ I just wanted to say a big thank you for all of the instruction, help, tips etc etc they have given me a very good base for my game.
Started playing 11 months ago…folks are always telling me I have a ‘good swing’ and I should not be a ’28 handicapper’ still on 28 due to the lack of cards put in at my club…
I have a good selection of your dvd’s and will continue to work with them… Thanks again… Bill Fiddes UK… “They are gettinning longer and straighter…”
Bill Fiddes,
Thanks Bill for the blog post and I am sorry to see you go from the insiders club, but I am truly happy that you enjoyed your time while in there and felt it helped you a lot. Keep in touch and best wishes.

I’m a member. Looking for advice on getting clubs for my grandson’s 13th birthday in few days. He’s had starter sets for several years and wants to get more serious about golf … any ideas?
Also looking for golf camp ideas for the 2 of us later this spring.
Jim Wray,
Thanks Jim for the question. In regards to golf lessons this spring please email Shannon at Shannon@perfectconnectiongolfswing.com and she will be able to set up a golf school for you and your grandson. In regards to golf clubs this is that awkward period in a kids life that most of us boys have gotten a ladies set. A ladies set is shorter and the shafts are much lighter and more flexible for him. I personally recommend however Adams golf because they have a new Teen set which is specifically for teenagers like your grandson. the shafts are better and the heads are weighted exactly for what you are needing. You will need to contact Adams or perhaps your golf shop can order them. What you will need to know is the distance from his middle knuckle to the floor. Probably around 24-27 inches. Hope this helps and let me know. If you need to I can order them, but let me know. Looking forward to seeing you both this spring.

Hi there CJ.
I have a question regading the difference between the DVD and the online downloads of the videos. Are they of the same quality as on the DVD or do they have a lower resolution to save on transfer volume.
What is resolution of the videos?
regards Carli
Carli,
Thanks Carli for the question. The videos sent online are compressed a bit, but I don’t think you will have a problem with the quality at all. many people just like to have the DVD’s so they can watch them on the TV and not have to worry about the computer. If anyone knows the exact resolution please answer this, but I’m almost positive they are 720 vs 1080 for the DVD’s. I don’t handle that part and for that I am sorry. Again if any techy’s out there know this please let me know for sure.

Dear Mr. Goecks,
I few months ago I played 18 holes far better than my usual 90 – 100 score. The shots were crisp and straight. So I thought, hey what could I do with some formal lessons? I spent months in golf hell, felt like I was swinging a fence post digger…it hurt, and I dreaded going into my back swing. Yes, when I did it right it was a thing of beauty but I noticed my distance was decreasing. When I did it wrong;hook, slice, skulled, chunked. I was thinking about giving up the game. It was no longer fun; it was the opposite of fun.
I ran across your lessons and it clicked, particularly the back swing into an almost baseball hitting position. (I was always taught that baseball was never to enter into a golf swing discussion! I was to be ashamed of spending my youth swinging a baseball bat instead of perfecting a near 360 degree golf swing all on one plane) It all started feeling natural again. On top of that, at the range (I am 58 and very much out of shape) the 152 yard flag usually requires my 7 iron. Today, I was using a 9 iron with a light wind at my back. I was closing in on the 171 yard flag with a 7 iron and reasonably straight, at worse 15 yards offline. I am a guy who is happy with a bogey, smiling with a par, and laughing with a birdie. I just want to have fun and play with a reasonable level of consistency.
When I first bought the online set, I was a bit concerned with all the multiple screen offers that came up. I thought I might have gotten taken. However, now I see it as the single best golf investment I have ever made (clubs, shoes, lessons). Basically for the price of an average golf lesson, I got great value. I tend not to make public comments on the internet, but I am very happy with your lessons. I will soon be purchasing other products. Thank you, Gary
Gary,
Thank you so much for your blog post and the kind words that you are saying. I really am touched by these words and I love what I do. I sincerely want and will try my hardest to help everyone I can. If you have any problems please let me know and I will give you advice and talk you through it. As long as we talk I know I can help you or anyone. Best wishes to you and thank you again.

CJ,
I’ve had the major low back injuries you discuss. Last year I had to have surgery for a fractured disc in the L5,S1 area. I’m stuck now with significant sciatic nerve damage to my right leg and foot. I’m almost 64 yrs old and was about ready to give up golf. I’ve purchased your DVD signature series. My major fault is getting the club stuck too far behind me and backing out of the shot. A lot of my shots are thin and I hate tight lies. I either push the ball, hit it fat or thin, or hit what looks like pull hooks. Probably more flip than pull. Which of your drills is best to get me out of this bad position coming through?
thanks, Jim
Jim gift,
Thanks Jim for the question and thank you for your support of Perfect Connection. You are easy to diagnose and I have got you pegged. this back out move will cause back injuries so we need to get this fixed. The club is coming too much from the inside on the way down. you need to get the club up the wall in the backswing as this will help. use the FEELING of sticking your thumbs in your ears on the backswing (feeling only sir). Next practice the knockdown shot as this is one that it is very difficult for you to stop the club short on the follow through. Please let me know if you don’t understand this. Another great drill for you would be to practice hitting balls on downhill lies and don’t tee it up, but focus and try to take a divot after the ball. this will prove difficult at first, but we need to get the club steeper in the downswing. Lets keep talking as we can get you fixed, but it will take a series of stages. Let me know how your doing.
Keep em Long and Straight,
CJ
Never mind that is most likely stupid question. I am just frustrated and looking for answers. I can’t hit the ball anymore. It just shoots across the ground 8 out of 10 times. I know I can get it up in the air because I have many, many times but not anymore and I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong.
Daniel Ray,
Thanks Daniel for the question. Take a step back and relax. Simply tee the ball up and work not on hitting the ball hard, but making contact by doing the L to L drill. Focus on the smoothness and relaxation and make sure the arms are straight when you finish. Once you feel some confidence then put the ball on the ground and continue the same feeling. After you are mastering this then make your feet a bit wider and this will have you hitting the ball well again.

Hi CJ, I just have to tell this story. I made the mistake of watching allot of you tube videos over the past couple of months and I have to says that I haven’t been able to hit the ball at all and my lower and upper back is killing me after a game or a trip to the driving range.
Well I have gone back and watched your videos on the fundamentals of the Perfect Connection Swing.
Now I am hitting the ball again and no PAIN. I just had to thank you again for getting me back in the game again.

I know you said in your video no low and slow so how fast is the take away?
My wife got me the videos
thanks Jim
Jim,
Thanks Jim for the question. I think the golf swing is a matter of personal preference to the speed. I have said in other videos that a good swing thought might be low and slow or balance, but it depends on the person and what they are working on. There is an app out there that teaches tour tempo. His theory states that the backswing is a 3:1 ratio versus the downswing. You might want to check out that app on your smart phone. Tour tempo is the name of the app. Hope this helps.

I can’t get any loft to me iron shots. My drive goes about 150 yards then rolls another 25 yards. My wedges don’t loft rolls along the ground. While I use a tee on my 7or 8 iron it goes streight out know loft.
Joseph Piccirillo,
Thanks Joe for the question. Does the ball hook? if so then your clubface is closed and it could be a grip problem. Are you sliding ahead of the ball? I need some more info to fully help you out. Let me know

rip
i don’t hook put I also don’t choke up on long irons. The ball goes straight My grip is the same on all shots. If I put the club flat on the ground and twist my hands then I hook.
Hey CJ and Jim
I guess you didn’t see the issue of Golf Digest years ago where Jack Nicklaus said his best sings felt like his backswing took as much time as his forward swing. This would make it a 2:1 ratio.
Phillip,
Thanks Phillip for the question. I did not see the issue of Golf Digest with the 2:1 ratio but I wonder if that is correct. There is an app out there called Tour Tempo that supposedly has done some research and they say the ideal ratio is 3:1, but I am not sure who is correct. I recommend checking out that app however and see if it helps you.

the one thing thats missing with your teaching is fitness, how to get realy fit, what we have to do in the gym to get supple so we can swing the club better, these are the things that would help the average golfer, so tell us all how do we use all the muscles in the golf swing and what to do in the gym.
many thanks dave from England.
David Haynes,
Thanks David for the question. My last few videos being sent out have been on physical fitness. I guess you didn’t see them. CJ – I recently bought your pcgs series of videos and I’m starting to work on your techniques. I was surprised to see that there is nothing specific on the driver swing. Does this mean that the driver swing is no different from the normal swing? The steep plane would seem harder to use with the driver/woods.
Thanks,
Peter
Peter Kepler,
thanks Peter for the question. The driver setup is different than that of an iron swing. With the driver you want 60% of your weight on your right side and want your spine slightly tilted to the right. Don’t worry about being as upright in the backswing as this would be impossible with the driver. The swing may feel similar as an iron, but due to the length of the driver it will obviously be flatter than an iron. Does this make sense? In other words work on the swing with the irons and let the driver just happen. Hope this helps.
Keep em Long and Straight,
CJ
Can you tell me if there is any difference in the swing plane if you use
a driver say compared to a wedge. Using a driver, I keep slicing
Hilton Rowlings,
Thanks Hilton for the question. Yes there is a difference in the swing plane, but you don’t have to think about it. What I mean by this is if you are using a wedge it will work more vertically due to the length of the club and your setup. the driver will work naturally flatter due to the length of the club. I advise my students to work on the swing with a 6 iron or so and then let the driver just blend in. Does this make sense?
Keep em Long and Straight,
CJ
Hilton Rowlings,
Thanks Hilton for the question. yes there is a difference between the swing plane of a wedge and a driver, but you don’t need to think about it. Due to the length of the wedge it will swing more up and down and due to the length of a driver it will swing a bit flatter. I advise my students to work with a 6 iron or so and work on there swing and the length of the club will dictate what happens with the other clubs. Does this make sense?

I was searching around the Internet and saw your swing video. I was impressed with the simplicity of the swing. I shoot in the 110′s and I am not improving. My buddy told me the other day that my swing was better a year and half ago. One the worst things I ever did was try the stack and tilt golf swing. My golf game has not been the same since. I am 52 years old and recently lost over ninety pounds, which may have also affected my swing as well. I have just started your free 10 lesson package and will keep you up to date on my progress. I like your approach and willingness to buck convention wisdom concerning the golf swing.
Thanks,

Hi C.J,
Could you please guide Me in the right direction, Just latetely My Tee Shot is ok but my second and third shots off the fairway’s Ive started hitting the ground before the ball and of course when I try to correct it I tend to top the ball which is making my game very frustrating. Please could you help.
Best Regards Foxy.
1. What role do the elbows play in the swing?
a. I read on an on-line article that the elbows must point in the direction of the hips so that the “soft inside” point outwards (sort of). The lines drawn perpendicular to these “soft insides” must intersect in front of your chest in line with the sternum.
2. What should the relative relationship be of the fore arms to the ball- target line at address?
a. Again I read on an on-line article that the right fore arm must be closer to the ball- target line than the left fore arm. Your comments please and about by how much.
3. What position must the head be held (say line connecting the eyes)
a. Since the head is the heaviest part of the body and based on inertia is it appropriate to have the line connecting the eyes parallel to the line connectig the right and left shoulders (same slope) (considering that the right shoulder is lower than the left left shoulder)
Thanks

Ulf Nebel,
Thanks Ulf for the questions and yes this program will work great for anyone. Please let me know if you have any questions with any players and I will be glad to help you. I do not have any one in Sweden yet, but I am looking to expand. I am wanting to come over the pond during the summer and do some schools and would love someone to train and also some recommendations on some courses. Lets talk and see where it goes. Merry Christmas to you and a happy New Year. Best wishes.
Keep em Long and Straight,
CJ
