Brandt – A True Great
I have to say that the last few weeks on the PGA Tour have been full of excitement and buzz. Tiger winning was great, then to see Phil Mickelson follow it up, really set the stage for what is to come this year.
This week’s AT&T National Pro-am seems like a bit of a breather to the regular Tour action. Sure the money and credit for a win is still there, but the fact that the groups include both pros and celebrities provides a different atmosphere. Let’s face it. Bill Murray running through bunkers with old ladies and footballs being punted down the fairway doesn’t really add up to a normal PGA Tour event. Some fans like it, others don’t, I personally think it is a refreshing event to watch. Good entertainment.
And this year is great because we get to focus on our eyes on Brandt Snedeker. He is tied for the lead going into the weekend and I am sure he is more motivated than anyone at this point. Brandt has been on an unbelievable role, I am not sure exactly the stat at this point, but I think he has about 7 top 5 finishes in his last 9 events. It’s really remarkable, and in my opinion harder than winning a single tournament.
The consistency it takes to accomplish that feat from one golf course to the other is something that we expected from the old Tiger, but we haven’t seen it from many in the past 5 years. And I love Brandt’s humble style. We all know he is a tremendous player, but he continues to give the nods to his piers. Stating that the “true greats” win these tournaments and he is simply finishing in the top 5.
I’m looking forward to Brandt’s first win this year, I think he is on the verge of several. And I hope those wins convince him of what his fans already believe – that he is “true great”. Good Luck to you this week Brandt!

Big Congratulations to Brandt Snedeker – so happy to see him win today…
I hope Snedeker gets the job done as he is overdue for a victory this season.
I actually tipped Snedeker a few weeks ago for big things in 2013. I feel his game is good enough to win a major and 2013 will be the year.
A victory at Pebble might be the catalyst to kick start a very successful season for Brandt.
Brandt is on a roll right now but a roll does not define a career. Lets wait till 2025 to see if he is great.
Freddie B,
Thanks Freddie for the blog post. I don’t think we need that long to know that Brandt is great. How many Ryder Cup teams does he have to play on to be great? This game is hard and the competition is even better. I agree that he may not win like Phil has or Tiger, but not many have. Also the standards may be skewed, but I think Brandt is great right now, although I do concur he has not come close to hall of fame levels yet.

CJ; I agree with you. He is great right now. We seem to forget how many 2nd places Nickalus made ( I think was 19 ) and I think we call him great, Right? Yea, Is seems it always has to be after they are all over they playing days that we call them great. What’s wrong with seeing it while they are playing.
Keep up the good work yourself.

I had the pleasure of playing in a pro-am with Brandt while he was on the Nationwide Tour
It was at the Pete Dye course in West Virginia. He is a bright young man and a true gentleman. His Arnold Palmer story is priceless. My son attended Vanderbilt at about the same time Brandt did. I would love to make contact with Brandt again. Any help would be appreciated.
Walter Pellish,
Thanks Walter for the blog post. I have never met brandt before, but I have heard stories like yours. I have never heard any bad stories about Brandt. he is a true ambassador for the game.

Brandt had gone through some times where he sorta ignored his maturity but now has settled down. He reminds me a lot with his humility on Byron Nelson, Could not think of a better true great after which to pattern himself, Of course he is a home town boy and we are prejudiced but thats ok too.
Tom Kilpatrick,
Thanks Tom for the blog post and I didn’t think about it that way in comparing Brandt to Byron, but you are correct. I could not imagine a finer gentleman than Byron Nelson. I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Byron and I was shocked at his humility. Such a true legend and an even finer man. Thanks again for your comment.

I do share your excitement for the game and for the tournaments as they unfold. I don’t share your opinion that Snedeker is one of the so-called greats. Is he a good golfer? Yes, he is that. Is he a fantastic competitor? Yes, he is that too. Do I enjoy watching him win? Yes, I do. But I think we should refrain from labeling people as “great” until they’ve had a career of greatness. For me, greatness depends on stellar performance over a long period of time. Brandt Snedeker is one heck of a golfer, but as yet, he is no Bobby Jones, Sam Snead, or Arnold Palmer. To achieve such status takes amazing consistency over a long period of time.
But of course, this is just my opinion.
i agree totally – it has been a great year already . i enjoy your tips on playing . your swing looks simple and easy , i just don’t get that relaxed with it.
thanks
Paul Yeary,
Thanks Paul for the blog post. In regards to my swing it took many years to work on my swing. Luckily I have been able to take a lot of my hard work and make it easier for others…at least I hope I have lol.

Good insight CJ for us amateurs who watch the tournaments but don’t have the background on some of these up and coming stars.
paul Hyatt,
Thanks paul for the blog post. I appreciate hearing your comments.
